Three and a half hours north west of Sydney, Mudgee is a picturesque drive via the Bells Line of Road through the Blue Mountains.  Departing from Sydney at approximately 9.00am our first destination is Mt Tomah and the Botanical Gardens.  These Gardens are the only botanic gardens in a World Heritage Listed area and here we will enjoy Devonshire Morning tea at the Potager Restaurant.  Continue towards Mudgee we take time for a visit to Craft Works Distillery, nestled on the edge of the stunning valley. This is artisan craft in the true sense and we will enjoy a tasting of the full flavoured Whisky either in the Distillery or at the recently refurbished Royal Hotel.

Arrive into Mudgee and the fabulous Logan Winery where we enjoy Wine and Cheese followed by a regional Charcuterie Platter lunch.   A visit to the Baker Williams Distillery to enjoy tastings of the superb handcrafted spirits and liqueurs is also a highlight of today.  He said ‘Lets build a distillery – She said ‘Lets make Butterscotch Schnapps’ the rest is history!  Arrive at our accommodation with the remainder of the afternoon free at leisure to explore the heritage streets   Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant.

Our accommodation for the next 2 nights is Perry Street, Mudgee’s favourite luxury boutique, apartment hotel.

Housed in the historic 1862 Mechanics Institute, a building rich with history, there are 13 stunning suites styled with a distinctly modern, urban influence.  Being located a stone’s throw from premiere dining and shopping, as well as the major tourist attractions, makes Perry Street Hotel the ideal launch pad for discovering Mudgee.

Overnight – Perry Street Hotel

This morning we enjoy a leisurely light breakfast at a local café as today is all about indulging in regional produce and fine wines!  The Mudgee region is home to restaurants, farm fresh produce and more than 40 elegant wineries that produce complex reds and golden chardonnays. Also, one of Mudgee regions best kept secrets has been its wonderful fresh and locally grown produce.   Today is about exploring the Farm Gate Trail where we will get to sample some of the best local and fresh produce and visit local boutique wineries.  A true food and wine lovers delight!!!   We return to your hotel late afternoon and the evening is free at leisure/dinner own choice and expense.

Overnight – Perry Street Hotel

This morning a leisurely start from Mudgee has us enjoying the picturesque drive to the stunning De Beaurepaire Winery.  From the first vine planting in 1998, this family’s single estate vineyard has grown into a renowned multi-generational boutique producer of French-style wines.  On arrival we will be met by one of the owners, Richard or Amanda de Beaurepaire for an informative and enjoyable couple of hours getting under the skin of their award-winning French-style wines. There is no better way to experience the true De Beaurepaire Wines.

And for the curious, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions!  After our extensive wine tasting, we enjoy a light lunch at the winery before arriving into the charming and beautiful historic village of Rylstone.  A great way to discover the colonial treasures of one of the oldest villages west of the Great Dividing Range is on the self-guided Rylstone Heritage Walk and of course enjoy a cold beverage at the local pub!   Early evening we will arrive at our overnight accommodation in Kandos and dinner at local restaurant.

Overnight – Fairways Motel Kandos

This morning after breakfast, we head out to the beautiful Wollemi National park, known for being the home of the Wollemi Pine, one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees.  This is a rugged and spectacular landscape which is important for its flora, fauna and Aboriginal rock art sites.    Arrive at Ganguddy as it is known to local Aboriginal people, a beautiful, serene waterway on the Cudgegong river.   Here we will join our expert local guide for our 2hr guided Kayak Tour (in stable kayaks!).  You will learn about the fascinating natural and cultural history of the area.  You can also expect to see a large variety of bird species and wildlife as you glide along the river through picturesque woodlands and towering sandstone pagoda rock formations. (This is easy kayaking and no experience is necessary – Ganguddy is a sheltered waterway

Returning to shore, enjoy a picnic lunch before we spend the afternoon with a local Indigenous Guide. Learn about the local Aboriginal people, who are known to have lived in the area for more than 12, 000 years and have the opportunity to view some Aboriginal rock art in the form of hand stencils made from red ochre and enjoy a series of walks in this stunning National Park.    Tonight we enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
